Storm Damage
When a storm comes through Western New York, the damage does not wait for a convenient time. A tree comes down on the roof. Wind strips shingles and drives rain into the walls. Hail chews up siding and takes years off a roof that looked fine the day before. Sometimes it is worse than that, and a family is standing in the driveway looking at a house they cannot go back into.
Ember Works is a Rochester design-build firm, and storm damage restoration is a core part of what we do. We handle the emergency work that stops the damage getting worse, the full insurance restoration that puts the house back, and the roofing, siding and window installation that makes it right. Same local company, one team, start to finish.
Emergency Response First
Before anything else, the priority is making the property safe and stopping water getting in. Every hour that water keeps entering turns a repair into a bigger one, and insurance policies generally expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
Call us and we will get to you as quickly as we can to handle:
- Emergency roof tarping over compromised or opened sections
- Board-up of broken windows, doors and wall openings
- Temporary weather protection so the structure is closed in
- Debris and tree removal from the structure, done in a way that does not cause more damage on the way off
- Assessment and documentation of what happened, photographed properly for your claim
Temporary work is exactly that. We stabilise the property, document everything, and then work through the permanent repair with you and your insurer.
Insurance Restoration
Most storm and disaster work is an insurance job, and the paperwork side is where homeowners feel most out of their depth. We do this regularly and we will walk you through it.
We handle restoration from:
- Fire and smoke damage. From a contained kitchen fire through to a total loss and a full rebuild. Smoke and water damage from firefighting frequently extends well beyond the burned area, and it all has to be accounted for.
- Wind damage. Lost roofing, torn siding, damaged windows, structural damage from straight-line winds.
- Tree and impact damage. A tree through a roof affects framing, ceilings, insulation, wiring and finishes, not just shingles. We handle the structural repair as well as the surface work.
- Water damage. Roof leaks, wind-driven rain, storm flooding, and the burst pipes that follow a winter power outage.
- Hail damage. Roofing, siding, gutters and window damage that is often invisible from the ground and easy for a quick inspection to miss.
We will meet your adjuster on site. That single thing makes a real difference. An adjuster is assessing a great many properties quickly after a regional storm, and having a contractor there who works on these systems every day, pointing out damage that is easy to miss from a ladder, tends to produce a more complete and more accurate assessment. We document thoroughly, we scope the work properly, and we are straight about what is storm damage and what is not.
Roofing
The roof takes the worst of it. We repair and replace roofs across Rochester and Monroe County, and we look at the whole assembly rather than just the surface.
- Full tear-off and replacement, and targeted repair where the roof still has life in it
- Hail and wind damage assessment, including the bruising that does not leak yet but has already shortened the roof's life
- Flashing, valleys, chimney and skylight details, which is where most leaks actually start
- Ice and water shield at the eaves, which matters enormously in our climate
- Ventilation and insulation corrections, because ice dams are usually a heat problem rather than a roof problem
- Decking and structural repair where water has already got in
Siding
Siding is the jacket on the house. Once it is breached, the damage moves inside the wall where nobody can see it.
- Full siding replacement and section repair
- Hail impact damage on vinyl, aluminium and fibre cement
- Wind damage, loose and missing panels, and failed seams
- Repair of the sheathing, house wrap and framing behind the siding, which is the part that actually keeps water out
- Proper flashing at windows, doors and rooflines
Windows
Storm damage to windows is not always a broken pane. Impact and pressure changes can break the seal on a double-glazed unit, and that shows up weeks later as fogging between the panes.
- Window replacement and installation, including full-frame replacement where the framing has been damaged
- Broken glass, damaged sashes, frames and sills
- Failed seals and units that have lost their insulating value
- Rot and water damage in the surrounding structure
- High-efficiency units that cut what you spend heating the house through a long Western New York winter
How the Process Works
- You call us. We arrange to get out to the property.
- Emergency protection. If water is still getting in or the property is unsafe, we deal with that first.
- Full assessment and documentation. We go through the property properly, including the attic, and photograph everything for your claim.
- We meet your adjuster. On site, with our documentation, so nothing legitimate gets missed.
- Scope and estimate. A detailed written scope of the repair work.
- The rebuild. Our own team doing the work, with one point of contact throughout.
- Final walkthrough. We do not consider it finished until you do.
Why It Matters That We Are Local
After every significant storm in this region, crews arrive from out of state and start knocking on doors. Some are legitimate. Many are not. They work fast, take deposits, and are gone long before any problem with the work shows up, leaving a warranty that nobody will honour.
Be careful of anyone who pressures you to sign on the spot, asks you to sign paperwork just to get a "free inspection", wants a large cash deposit up front, has no local address, or offers to waive or absorb your insurance deductible. That last one is not a discount. It is fraud, and it exposes the homeowner as well as the contractor.
Ember Works is at 849 Paul Rd, Ste 304, Rochester, NY 14624. Free Assessment, No Obligation
If a storm has hit your home and you are not sure what you are dealing with, we will come out and tell you honestly what we see at no charge. If there is work to do, we will quote it and stand behind it. If there is not, we will tell you that too and you will have an accurate picture of your house for nothing.
